A Safe, Inclusive and Joyful Space for Refugees to Thrive Together
Solidarity Initiative for Refugees (SIR) is proud to present the Family Recreation Centre—a project designed to fill a critical gap in recreational and early childhood development facilities in Kakuma. This initiative creates a safe, vibrant space for families while generating sustainable income for community empowerment.
This is more than play. It’s a pathway to healing, empowerment, and sustainability in one of the world’s most underserved humanitarian settings.
Kakuma refugee camp hosts nearly 300,000 displaced people — but has zero formal recreational spaces.
Families travel to Kakuma town for leisure, paying over KES 400 per trip, which most can’t afford regularly.
Parents, especially working mothers, lack safe childcare options.
Youth have no structured outlets for creativity or physical activity.
Refugee-led organizations like SIR face funding uncertainty, limiting our ability to serve long-term.
Our vision is rooted in equity, inclusion, and long-term impact. Every visit helps strengthen our community from the ground up.
Playgrounds, mini-gym, and sports areas.
Spaces for weddings, birthdays, and corporate meetings.
Safe environment for children while parents engage in activities.
Affordable and diverse snacks and beverages.
Innovative gaming and VR experiences leveraging digital expertise.
Generate a net annual revenue of KES 3,574,525.50 by Year 2.
Directly employ 20 staff members, with additional indirect job opportunities.
Provide over 50,000 annual visitors with safe, affordable recreational activities.
