Too many refugees are stuck in cycles of survival, unable to learn, earn, or lead their own futures.

At Solidarity Initiative for Refugees (SIR), we’re changing that. We are a Refugee-led organization based in Kakuma Refugee camp, unlocking dignified opportunities for displaced people to access education, build digital skills, start businesses, and influence decisions that shape their lives.

Kakuma and Kalobeyei are home to over 300,000 refugees — most of them women and children. Every day, they face challenges that most of us can’t imagine:

  • 75% of refugee youth are unemployed and disconnected from the digital economy.
  • Only 3 in 10 children have access to early learning, leaving thousands behind before they even start school.
  • Women, especially single mothers, carry the heaviest burdens, juggling caregiving, poverty, and exclusion from income opportunities.

Despite these urgent needs, Refugee-led solutions remain critically underfunded. Local refugee leaders, who know the problems best, are rarely resourced to drive change.

Your gift helps shift that power.

When you give to SIR, you’re investing in refugees as leaders not just recipients. With your donation, we can ensure more women start their own small businesses and graduate from poverty, more youth get connected to remote jobs, and more children experience safe, nurturing early education and young people find their voice in a world that often silences them.

Thank you for your support!

About SIR

Solidarity Initiative for Refugees (SIR) is a Refugee-led organization dedicated to unlocking opportunities for displaced people to learn, earn, and lead change. We work to ensure that refugees, especially women, youth, and children are not just passive recipients of aid, but active drivers of their futures through access to education, digital skills, entrepreneurship, and policy influence. Founded in Kakuma Refugee Camp, SIR is powered by those who have lived through displacement themselves. Our team is deeply rooted in the community we serve, with over 90% of our staff being refugees, working directly in camps and settlements across Turkana County.
